How this is calculated
Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature, then multiply by 5/9, which is the same as dividing by 1.8: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. For 70 °F: 70 − 32 = 38, and 38 ÷ 1.8 = 21.11 °C. The formula is exact (NIST Special Publication 811). Subtract the 32 first: the two scales start at different points, and only the difference from freezing is scaled.
For a quick estimate, subtract 30 and halve. 70 °F gives 20 °C against the exact 21.1 °C, and 50 °F gives 10 °C, which is exact. The estimate stays within about 1 degree between 30 and 70 °F and drifts further outside that range.
Kelvin, the scale of science, starts at absolute zero: K = (°F + 459.67) ÷ 1.8. Absolute zero is −459.67 °F or −273.15 °C, and nothing gets colder.
Body temperature
MedlinePlus gives 98.6 °F (37 °C) as the generally accepted average body temperature and notes that studies find a range from about 97 °F to 99 °F (36.1 °C to 37.2 °C). The CDC defines a fever as a measured temperature of 100.4 °F (38 °C) or higher.

Food-safety charts print rounded Celsius values: FoodSafety.gov lists 165 °F as 74 °C and 145 °F as 63 °C, and the FDA gives 40 °F as 4 °C and 0 °F as −18 °C. Water freezes at 32 °F and boils at 212 °F at normal sea-level air pressure; at higher altitude it boils at a lower temperature.

Questions people ask
How do you convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32, then divide by 1.8 (or multiply by 5/9). 50 °F − 32 = 18, and 18 ÷ 1.8 = 10 °C.
What is 98.6 °F in Celsius?
37 °C: 98.6 − 32 = 66.6, and 66.6 ÷ 1.8 = 37. It is the generally accepted average body temperature (MedlinePlus).
What is 350 °F in Celsius?
176.67 °C, which rounds to 175 °C on an oven marked in steps of 5 degrees.
Is 100 °F a fever?
100 °F is 37.78 °C. The CDC defines a fever as 100.4 °F (38 °C) or higher, so 100 °F is just below that line.
What is 0 °F in Celsius?
−17.78 °C. It is also the freezer temperature the FDA recommends: 0 °F (−18 °C).
What is 212 °F in Celsius?
100 °C, the temperature at which water boils at sea level.
