How this is calculated
Square footage is length × width, with both sizes in feet. Inches are divided by 12 first. A room 12 ft 6 in long and 10 ft wide is 12.5 × 10 = 125 square feet.

Rooms and odd shapes
Split an L-shaped room or an odd yard into rectangles, triangles and circles, and add one area for each part. An L-shaped room made of a 14 × 12 ft part and an 8 × 6 ft part is 168 + 48 = 216 square feet. For a whole house, add one area per room.
Square yards, square meters and acres
A square yard is 9 square feet, and a square foot is exactly 0.09290304 square meters (NIST Handbook 44). So 125 square feet is 125 ÷ 9 = 13.89 square yards, or 125 × 0.09290304 = 11.61 square meters. An acre is 43,560 square feet; for land, the square feet to acres calculator converts both ways.
Cost and extra for waste
The cost is the area × the price per square foot: 500 square feet of flooring at $4.25 is $2,125. Flooring and tile are cut to fit, so the calculator can add a percent for waste before it works out the cost. How much depends on the product and the room; the installation instructions usually say. With 0%, the result is the exact area.

How do I calculate square footage?
